About this single
Conceived in 2017 and finally brought to life in the studio in 2024, Angelique’s single “Hollow” is a hauntingly perceptive exploration of the human psyche. More than just a musical release, the track serves as a deep dive into the psychological complexities of narcissism, peeling back the layers of grandiosity to reveal the devastating emotional emptiness hidden beneath.
The Psychology Behind the Music
Drawing heavily from her educational background in Psychology, Angelique approaches the subject matter with both clinical insight and artistic empathy. “Hollow” moves beyond the casual, everyday use of the word “narcissism” to dissect its clinical reality. The lyrics map out the true definition of being “hollow,” translating complex behavioral patterns into a poignant musical narrative.
Key themes explored in the track include:
The Internal Void: Giving a voice to the profound, aching emptiness that sits at the core of a narcissistic personality.
The Root of Toxicity: Illustrating how manipulative or toxic outward behaviors are often desperate, unconscious attempts to fill an unfillable internal space.
The Facade: Exploring the harsh contrast between a glittering, self-important external image and a total lack of genuine internal substance.
From Concept to Studio
The seven-year gestation period between the song’s writing and its recording speaks to the weight of its subject matter. What began as a psychological reflection in 2017 evolved over time into a mature, meticulously crafted sonic experience. Ultimately, “Hollow” transformed a dense psychological concept into a highly accessible, emotionally resonant piece of art—holding a mirror up to a personality trait that is, by its very nature, devoid of authentic substance.
